Rick de Lange has been working in the estate agency sector since 2011 and has been operating under his own name since 2019. With RICK.DELANGE, he set out deliberately to establish a different kind of estate agency. Not a traditional agency with windows full of property listings, but one offering a personalised and contemporary service that puts the client first.
The company specialises in the sale, purchase and letting of properties in The Hague and the surrounding area. The agency operates in various market segments, with a focus on the high-end market. “The personal touch is very important to me. My name is on the company, and clients actually get to speak to me on the phone. They don’t have to go through a receptionist or various departments first before they get an answer.”
No two working days are the same
According to Rick, it is difficult to predict what an average working day will be like. The day often begins downstairs at Tauro with a cup of coffee and a chat with the reception staff. After that, anything can happen: from property viewings and meetings with clients to further optimising business operations or delivering a presentation.
“One minute someone’s on the phone about a two-million-euro property, and the next you’re busy with another viewing or discussing how the property market is developing. That variety is what makes the job interesting.”
Making a difference for international house hunters
For Rick, meeting people is the best part of his job. He finds it particularly rewarding to support expats. They come to the Netherlands from all over the world and often know very little about the Dutch housing market, the different neighbourhoods and everything involved in moving house.
“Sometimes it all starts with a phone call to someone who is still living in Japan. Once they arrive in the Netherlands, they might, for example, stay in short-stay accommodation for three months. I then help them find permanent accommodation and guide them through all the necessary steps involved.”
During such a process, Rick becomes a permanent point of contact for his clients in a country they are yet to get to know. “They rely on your knowledge and guidance. You can really make a difference in their new environment. I find that one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.”
An office that felt familiar straight away
RICK.DELANGE has now been renting office space at Tauro Statenkwartier for over a year. Before that, Rick worked from a large open-plan office in the neighbourhood. Although the location was professional, he felt it lacked a personal touch.
“It felt vast and impersonal to me, almost like a factory. A fellow estate agent recommended Tauro to me. When I walked in here, I immediately felt as though I’d come home.”
On the third floor, a compact office unit became available that was exactly what Rick needed. He didn’t need a lot of square metres, as long as there was a pleasant workspace, his own postbox and access to professional facilities.
